GETTING STARTED
This program has been developed using my experience of working as a member of the scientific group responsible for supporting the preparation of the National Soviet fencing team. I started this work in 1979 in preparation for the Moscow Olympics and was a member of this group until 1983, when I officially became a coach of the national team. I coached this team from 1981 to 1992. The team won 6 world championships, achieved a gold medal at the 1984 alternative Olympic Games, the ‘disastrous’ silver medal at the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 and the gold medal in Barcelona Olympic games in 1992. This scientific group consisted of 5 -7 people. Computers at that time were the size of a room and I am very happy that, with the help of new technology, I can present you the program that can substitute the work of many people. This program is based on a system of self assessment. The Virtual Trainer will help you plan your training and help you control the completion of your training plan. With the training planner, you can plan your training in detail, adding to your fencing training plan, competitions, fitness training and also other sports. You will be able to control your training with the training log. Training chart will help you to correlate your training and competition success with different types of activity. By adding the training log to "tactical characteristics" of the bouts, you will be able to understand your fencing better. It will improve your tactical knowledge and fighting strategy and will help to understand your opponents. There is also the option of sending your reports to your coach and to test your progress with the test option.Before you start to use the program, put you personal details and your photo in "owner" section.( FILE - OWNER )
TRAINING PLANNER
Using the APPOINTMENT TEMPLATE, choose - TYPE - COMPETITIONS. After that, click on the days in the calendar to mark days of competitions during the year that you are planning to attend. Then choose – TRAINING, depending on the competitions dates add the training days, rehabilitation days, etc. Using YEAR, MONTH and WEEK view you can add more details to your training plan.
TRAINING LOG
To start entering information about your training, you will need to select NEW from the FILE menu or press the NEW button on the toolbar. You will be presented with the NEW ENTRY window, which will allow you to enter information about your training, etc.
On this tab, shown above, you can enter general and performance orientated training information. Use the self-assessment system to drag the slider to the position indicating the level of your training success and level of tiredness in percent. On this tab, assess your training, considering the tactical style of your fencing on the day.

Next tab will allow you to record the usage and success of different actions in attack and defense. Firstly, adjust the usage figures (100% in total) and thereafter that adjust success of the completion (scoring the hit) of each one.

In the training log view, you will be able to see your training days with the training log summaries. Click on the training date to recall the log details of the particular training.

You can customize the tab view with the FIELD CHOOSER. Just click on the button next to DATE.
You can choose particular dates - weeks, etc. and click APPLY. You can also add duration of training in other sports.
TRAINING CHARTS
After you have entered a reasonable amount of training data in the program, you can use the CHART OPTION to see how your training success relates to the time you spend on your footwork training, on the level of stress during your training and competitions or the number of direct attacks you use during bouts, etc.
REPORTS
In the Reports tab, choose TRAINING LOG or MEDICAL first, and then report period and click apply. The report can be printed for your records, for your coach or for your Fencing Federation.
PREFERENCES
Click on PREFERENCES from the TOOLS menu.
Add other sports that you are going to use for your general fitness preparation.
Add the names of the tests you are going to use for testing your special fitness.
You may want to adjust colors of your charts.
FAQ
After installation you will see two weeks of the training log already entered into the program. You can use this data to play with the program and to understand how to use it. When you ready to start using the program go to TOOLS – CREATE NEW DATABASE. All previous records will be cleared and you can start entering your own figures and notes.
You can have your fencing pictures organized in the pictures section. Choose NEW PHOTOGRAPH ALBUM, and the name of the album will appear on the left. Right click on the album name and add pictures stored on your hard drive.
The Favorite view feature is a convenient way of organizing your Log, Chart views, Journal, Opponents and Tests. You can choose fields that you only need at a particular moment, by dragging the field to the desired location and saving this view in FAVORITE VIEW
Click the Add to FAVORITE VIEW and you will be presented with the appropriate screen, as shown below. When adding, type the name you want to give to your Favorite and press the Add button; it will be added to the Favorites list. If you want to delete a Favorite, select the name and the section of the Favorite you want to remove and press the Delete button, it will be removed from your Favorites list.
A quick way of entering new information for a day is to double click the day when it is empty. This will bring up the New Entry window. Double clicking when there is information already entered on that day will open the information for editing. If more than one entry exists for a day, the first entry will be opened. When deleting, the first entry for a day will be deleted first.
Selecting Print View from the toolbar or menu will open a preview window showing only the Planner for the selected month. From here you can print the Planner.
Alternatively, you can select Print from the toolbar or menu and print the Planner immediately without viewing it first.
Add each of your Planner views to the Favorites list to save time selecting them in the future.
A quick way of opening an entry for editing is to double click it. Only one entry can be opened at a time. If you need to delete an entry, perhaps because you entered duplicate information; select Delete from either the file menu or the toolbar.
Selecting Print View from the toolbar or menu will open up a preview window showing only the Log as it appears on screen. From here you can print the Log. Alternatively, you can select Print from the toolbar or menu and print the Log immediately without viewing it first.
To send your training log and all other information to your coach, your federation, or to “Tyshler” you can use TOOLS – MAKE A BACK UP. This file can be send via e-mail.
JOURNAL
Use JOURNAL, to enter general, medical and psychological data regarding your training. Select NEW DAY INTO JOURNAL. Add general comments about your training and advice from your coach.

In the Journal view, you can see a summary of your training notes.
You can apply different filters to the view, using ALL LIST, GENERAL, etc. and choose the period on top of the table and click apply. You can edit your notes by double clicking on the selected training day or by clicking EDIT from the main menu.
OPPONENTS
Analyze your opponents using the OPPONENTS tab. Select NEW OPPONENT from the FILE menu
You can add personal information and a picture. You can analyze tactics and strategies that you using against a particular fencer, record opponents’ successful actions against you and note down advice from your coach.
As always, you can use different filters in the OPPONENTS VIEW to access necessary information.
